Connecting to True Beauty

Tamarria

There is no doubt that that world is rapidly changing. Many of us are more connected to computers and gadgets than we are to our family, not to mention our selves. How do we connect to our inner beauty? More importantly, do we need to connect to our inner beauty?

This is my story: I had to connect to my inner beauty to connect with myself. Only after I found my true beauty did I truly connect to life, family and God.

You might say that when we externalize beauty we feel more in control of it. We can go to an expert and ask them to change the problem for us. After a little anesthesia viola, your ugly is fixed. It is not so easy to refocus our view and balance our spirit. You can’t just call God’s secretary and schedule an appointment to rebalance your soul or love yourself. There is no picture of celebrity you can rip out of a magazine and take with you to your appointment with God.

Trust me my own quest was not easy. I know now that I lacked self-acceptance and self-love. What is worse is that I depended on others to define my beauty. It took a while, but I discovered that I didn’t necessarily love myself genuinely but I loved what people were saying about me; and as long as they were saying it, I was determined to do whatever was necessary to keep the compliments coming. The problem was I felt miserable. I wasn’t ever really happy which affected my life. I was not in tune with myself so I didn’t even know what I was feeling.

Finally after realizing how miserable I was, I ask myself, “What do you truly think of yourself?” Of course in my own place of ugly I beat myself up, I had an entire list of “this is wrong, I wish it looked like this instead”, but I was only hurting myself. Looking back, my lack of self worth was the only ugly thing on me. The reality was, I wasn’t looking inside, instead I was only looking at my physical appearance. I just couldn’t or didn’t step back and evaluate what was in my heart.

The quota for physical beauty changes on a daily basis but beauty in the heart is stable and eternal. As cliché as it sounds, how much better would this world be if beauty was defined by a person’s character?

BelievingWomen

Somewhere in my journey I found the meaning of true beauty. Inner peace with oneself is true beauty. Accepting and loving the differences in others is true beauty. Wanting to help another realize the beauty in their heart is true beauty.

Your greatest asset should be the love in your heart and your greatest accessory, a smile.

Instead of focusing so much on the temporary things, like the outer appearance which changes with time, try focusing on the eternal things that will stand the test of time. Don’t misunderstand, our physical bodies should also be maintained and treated well, but it should not be the foundation of who we are as people. The journey begins with you. Learn to accept who you are and seek to better your inner self. Love who GOD created you to be and who he is forming you to be. After all, when HE made you, HE thought it was good. Who are you to think anything different? Once you begin to love yourself, your beauty will shine through your eyes and you will begin to see things differently. Perhaps, you will see beauty for what it truly is: love for GOD, love for yourself, and love for others.

Be blessed and be beautiful.
